Travel is the transport of people on a trip/journey or the process or time involved in a person or object moving from one location to another.

The word originates from the Middle English word travailen ("to toil"), which comes from the French word travailler ("travail").

Tourism—travel for recreation. This may apply to the travel itself, or the travel may just be the necessary investment to arrive at a desired location.

Hostels, also called youth hostels, provide short-term accommodation to travellers or backpackers, particularly encouraging outdoor activities and cultural exchange for the young. Hostels are also often called backpackers' hostels (or backpackers' for short), particularly in Australia and New Zealand.

In a hostel guests often rent a bed (sometimes a bunk bed) in a dormitory and share common bathroom, kitchen, and lounge rooms. Private rooms are often available. The main benefits of a hostel are firstly the low cost of the accommodation compared to alternatives such as hotels, and that one gets to meet other travellers from all over the world. Hostels are usually less formal and less expensive than hotels. They are most frequently used by young travellers. In the past many hostels imposed age limits, but today it is more common for hostels to accept guests of all ages. Despite the openness of modern hostels, the majority of guests are traditionally and overwhelmingly between the ages of 18 and 26.

Wanderlust is German loanword, commonly used as meaning "love of travel". Others consider it to be a simple compound of wander + lust.

"Wanderlust" commonly means something close to having an itch to travel, to get out and see the world. It's not quite the same as the German, but the ideas of embracing an urge to travel in the outdoors is roughly equivalent.

In German, the term Wanderlust sounds old-fashioned today. To retranslate the English Wanderlust in the sense of "love of travel" into German, the expression Fernweh is more appropriate.

A resort is a place used for relaxation or recreation. As a result, people tend to seek out a resort for holidays or vacations. Generally, a resort is run by a single company, which attempts to provide for all or most of a vacationer's wants while staying there, such as food, drink, lodging, sports, entertainment, and shopping.

Towns that contain resorts -- or where tourism or vacationing is a major part of the local activity -- are often called resort towns. The term resort is sometimes misused to identify a hotel that does not provide the other amenities required of a resort. However, a hotel is frequently a central feature of a resort.

The Walt Disney World Resort is perhaps the most famous example of a resort in the world, however, resorts exist throughout the world. Resorts are especially prevalent in Central America and the Caribbean.
